Bon Anniversaires!

During our last several weeks in Aix, many of our friends celebrated birthdays.... 40 was a very popular number!

We had a girls' brunch to celebrate Julie's, 40th....

Megan and Teal, both turned 40 this summer. We left before their big summer soiree, but had a wonderful farewell dinner together in Aix...

Our Spanish friend, Danci, gave her husband, Paco, a Flamingo dinner birthday party. As you can see, Danci, in pink, had the perfect outfit!

The food was delicious, authentic and much of it came directly from Spain...

Danci made her incredible Paella!

The birthday cake delivery squad...

A royal cake for the "last king of the Canary Islands"...

After dinner, Danci and Asunta performed the flamingo!!!

Nathalie celebrated her 40th last year, but that didn't stop her from having a great time at a surprise birthday lunch for her 41st!

Our hostess, Linda, pouring the celebratory champagne...

Toasting the birthday girl...

Our Norwegian friends, Tova and Thor, celebrated his 40th with a poolside dinner buffet party. For starters the food was spectacular...

Linda, both caterer and guest, made incredible sushi, spring rolls and satays. Her strawberry topiary, little orange baskets with fruit salad and the carved watermelons were all amazing.

The birthday boy enjoying a toast!

When we sat for dinner, the hostess split up spouses.... As you can see, Nick enjoyed his dinner partner!

but then, so did I!

And there was no doubt about how Eona felt about her dinner partners!!

The toasting process was unique. Apparently in Norway, or in Thor's world, it is customary for each table at a party like this to stand up and give a cheer for their table- each trying to outdo the other. I was at Thor's table and he made sure we had a LOUD cheer!

When the cake came out, each nationality sang Happy Birthday in their native language. Despite great efforts by many, the Spaniards were the best...or at least the most dramatic!

Who says getting older can't be fun!?!?
