Hiking in the Luberon-Bonnieux to LaCoste

On the second day of Charlie and Gale's visit, we drove up to the Luberon Mountains for the day to go hiking, wine tasting and eating!! It was an absolutely glorious day and we arrived in the lovely hill town of Bonnieux by mid morning. The four of us enjoyed the trek along wooded paths, through vineyards and up hilly, back roads that led us from Bonnieux to the neighboring hill town of LaCoste.
These photos follow our journey....

Gale and Charlie with enthusiasm in their step...

Nick points out the trail...
The village of LaCoste now visible in the distance....
Lovely home with cherry orchard...

A "bourie"-these primative dwellings dot the countryside of Provence....
Wandering by a lovely vineyard....
We truly felt we were in paradise...

In LaCoste, we wandered through the town on its many arched and cobbled streets...

LaCoste is home to the Savannah School of Art...

At the very top of the town is Chateau LaCoste, once owned by the famous Marquis de Sade, now owned by the also famous, Pierre Cardin. The public is not allowed into the Chateau may explore the area around it....we also enjoyed the nice view of the valley below...

For lunch we settled for the simple, but delicious, fare at Cafe de Sade. Freshly made tartes-provencale and spinach, a roasted chicken, fresh bagette and cold rose...yummy!!

We enjoyed our journey back to Bonnieux. Lovely scenery and we even managed a nap in a sunny field along the way.

The perfect end to our hike- "cafe creme" at Le Terrail in Bonnieux.
